Chakka Varuthathu (jackfruit Fry Or Chips)

Jack fruit is very common fruit in the state of Kerala. So the people of Kerala love to prepare a variety of dishes using Jack fruit. Jack fruit fry is a simple recipe prepared using raw jack fruit. It can be prepared and stored in an airtight container so that it can be used when jack fruit is not available.

Ingredients: 
Jackfruit-250 grams
Salt-as you need
Water-5 table spoons
Oil- to deep fry
Directions: 
Extract the edible segments (Chakka chulas) from the jack fruit.
Remove the white strips from the segments.
Remove the jack fruit seeds and cut both the ends of each segment.
Then cut the jack fruit segments into thin strips of medium thickness.
Mix the jack fruit strips with turmeric powder and keep it aside for 5-10 minutes.
Switch on the stove and place a frying pan on the stove.
Add oil into the pan and heat it.
When the oil gets heated, reduce the flame.
Put the jack fruit strips in batches into the oil.
Stir immediately and intermittently.
Deep fry till it becomes golden brown, add salt water to it.
When the water gets dried up, remove it from flame and transfer it to a tissue paper to remove excess oil.
Serve it as side dish with meal or as a snack at tea time.

This can be stored in a container and can be used even after jack fruit season.
