Parippu Vada (red Gram/toor Dal Snack)

Parippuvada is a teatime snack very popular in the state of Kerala. It is very nutritious and tasty too.

Parippu vada
Ingredients: 
Parippu (Red gram/ thoor daal) -1 cup
Onion-1
Ginger-1 medium piece
Green chilli-3nos
Turmeric powder-1/4 teaspoon
Asafoetida-1/4 teaspoon
Aniseed or fennel-1/2 teaspoon
Salt –as you need
Curry leaves-3
Oil –To deep fry
Directions: 
Soak parippu for 2 hours in water.
Roughly grind the soaked parippu. Don’t make it a paste.
Chop the onion, ginger, green chilli and curry leaves.
Then mix it with parippu.
Then add turmeric powder, asafoetida, and crushed aniseed or fennel to parippu and mix it well.
Add salt to this mixture.
Make small balls with this mixture and gently squeeze it with your hand to get the shape of Vada.
Then switch on the gas and add oil in a pan.
When the oil gets heated, fry all the vadas till it reaches a golden brown color.
Serve hot.
