Van Payer Curry (red Cow Peas Curry)

This curry is a favourite of every Keralites. It is simple and popular recipe in Kerala. One of the main courses of breakfast in Kerala is Puttu. Van payer curry is a good combination for puttu.

Ingredients: 
Vanpayer (red cow peas)-1 cup
Coconut (grated)-1/4 cup
Red chilli powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Coriander powder-2 tsp
Onion -1
Curry leaves-Few
Coconut oil -1tsp
Mustard-1 tsp
Salt- to taste
Dry red chilli-3
Directions: 
Soak Van payer in water for 5-6 hours.
Pressure cooks it 20 to 30 minutes by adding enough water and salt, until the van payer is fully cooked.
In a mixer add grated coconut, onion, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and cumin seeds, grind it and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, Dry red chilli and curry leaf.
Add the ground mixture and cooked payer along with water to this. Mix well.
Cook for 10 minutes or till the gravy thickness.
Serve hot with puttu and chapatti.

Soak the van payer in water overnight.
