Moong Dal Pakoda (lentil Pakora, Indian Appetizers)

I am a big fan of quick recipes and everything easy-to-cook. I have two sons and both of them love finger foods and snacky items. 50% of my time in the day spent in the kitchen trying to make various Indian Appetizers. I love making pakodas and have mastered the batter techniques, especially pakoras using dal, as they are comparatively an healthier option. So if you want to know how to make dal pakoda perfectly then this is the recipe you should be following.

Moong Dal (Green gram Split Dal): 1 cup
Green Chilies: 2
Ginger : 1 Tbsp grated
Garlic : 2 pods
Jeera: 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/2 Tsp
Chili Powder: 1/2 Tsp
Salt to taste
Pinch of sugar
Oil for deep frying
Fresh Coriander - 3- 4 twigs
Soak Moong dal for 2 hrs in warm water
You will notice after soaking it for two hours it has softened a bit. Now in a grinder take the moong, Ginger, garlic, chilies, coriander, salt to taste and pinch of sugar. Grind these ingredients coarsely; do not them it into a fine paste. Do not add water while grinding as it will turn into a paste. Avoid water completelt. But just in case you need to do not add more that 1-2 tbsp
Now transfer the mixture into a bowl, add turmeric, chili power and jeera. Give a good mix
Heat oil for deep- frying
When oil turns hot, slowly start adding the spoonful of moong dal batter to the oil
Keep the heat to medium and let the pakodas cook till golden brown
Do not cook on high heat, as the pakodas may burn or remain uncooked inside
Serve hot with green chutney
You may also add Onions, for this recipe 1 finely chopped should do
