Aloo Ka Chila (potato Pancake For Fasting)

Before watching this recipe in a regional Channel, I used to cook either besan (Gramflour) ka chilla or Sooji (Semolina) ka chilla. Aloo ka chilla was something, I could never imagine. The closest was Aloo tikki but when I saw this recipe on Television, I realized how we can make innovative stuffs with simple ingredients. Taste wise it is awesome for all potato lovers specially kids. You can give them these chilas in tiffin and it will remain softer than other chilas and they would love the combination of these chilas with Tomato sauce or Tamarind sauce. You can enjoy these chillas in your fasting too as it is a no Onion and no Garlic recipe.

Boiled aloo (Potatoes) – 4 pieces (Medium sized)
Sendha namak (Fasting salt) – To taste
Green coriander Leaves - 4-5 Tablespoon (Chopped)
Green Chilies – 3-4 pieces (Chopped)
Roasted cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon
Refined oil for frying. - approx 6-7 tablespoon
Mash or grate the boiled Potatoes in a bowl.
Add coriander leaves, green chillies, cumin seeds and salt and mix well.
Switch on the gas and heat a pan.
Simultaneously rub some oil in your palm and take small portions from the Potato mixture . Flatten it by pressing it by both palms to give it a pancake shape. This requires a little practice. You can add some chestnut flour for better binding.
Now heat a pan and apply a tablespoon of oil. Place the potato pancake gently . Increase the flame to medium and cook one side, till it starts turning a little brown. Flip on other side and cook it likewise.
Remove and serve hot with Tamarind Chutney.
