Chemmeen Ularthiyathu (prawn Ulathiyathu)
Chemmeen ulathiyathu is a traditional method of preparing chemmeen or prawn in the central Kerala. The Kerala style prawn ulathiyathu has the perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness.
Chemmeen or prawn -250 grams
Small onions - 15-20 nos.
Green chilli - 4nos.
Chilli powder - 2 teaspoon.
Salt- as you need.
Curry leaves - few
Coconut slices-1/4 cup
Turmeric powder-1 pinch
First clean the prawns and keep it aside.
Switch on the stove and place a pan in the stove and add oil to it and heat it.
Add to it small onions, green chilli, sliced coconut and curry leaves.
Sauté it well until the onion turns light brown.
Then add to it turmeric powder, salt and chilli powder.
Fry it well for two minutes or until the raw flavour of chilli powder is gone.
Then add the prawns to it and sauté it for 2 more minutes.
Then add water to it.
Cook it covered for 5 minutes on low flame.
Then open the lid and allow the water to evaporate.
Then sauté it in the oil for 5 more minutes (0il that is left after the water evaporates).
Remove it from flame and enjoy.
It is a very tasty recipe and it goes best with rice.
