Dalma (pigeon Pea With Vegetables In Orissa Style)

Dalma is a traditional dish of Orissa. It is a type of dal which is made with pigeon pea and different types of vegetables. This is very healthy.
I learned to make it from my aunty. She lives in Puri. She told me that in the Jagannath temple of Puri "dalma " is offered as bhog . People believe that Dalma is a favourite dish of Jagannath Dev.
In Orissa people make this with pigeon pea or bengal gram . But if you want you can also try this preparation with split green gram. In that case you'll have to dry roast the dal and then you should boil it.

Ingredients: 
Raw papaya -1/2 cup
Potato -1/2 cup
Brinjal -1/ 2 cup
Pumpkin twigs -1/2 cup
Beans -1 / 2 cup
Pumpkin -1 / 2 cup
Tomato -1/2 cup
Pigeon pea -1 cup
Cumin seeds - 4 teaspoons
Bay leaf-2
Dry red chilli -3
Mustard oil -4 tablespoons
Sugar-1/2teaspoon
Ghee -1 teaspoon
Salt -as per taste
Green chillies -4 or 5
Directions: 
Wash the vegetables thoroughly. Cut them into medium size pieces. Cut beans and peeled pumpkin twigs into two inch long pieces.
Soak the dal in water for about an hour. After one hour boil 7 cups of water in a deep pan.Add the dal, turmeric powder, green chillies and cook it in pressure cooker for 1 whistle.
Fry 3 teaspoon cumin seeds and 2 piece dry red chilli slightly. Then make a fine Powder out of it.
Heat oil in a wok .Then add cumin seeds ,bay leaf,dry red chilli .When spluttering add the vegetables. When vegetables are half cooked add the tomatoes. Cook till everything is well cooked.
Add the boiled dal in it.Add salt and sugar and salt.Cover it with a lid. After 8 or 10 minutes open the lid.
Finally sprinkle the cumin -red chilli powder.Afd ghee.Stir well .
Switch off the gas.

Serve with plain rice or roti.
