Gowarichya Shengachi Bhaji (stir Fried Cluster Beans)

Stir fried vegetables are a healthy main course dish that changes according to the availability during different seasons through the year. The humble cluster bean is also helpful in reducing cholesterol.The use of goda masala or kala masala is intrinsic to Maharashtrian cuisine. It contains bay leaf, cloves, black cardamom, coriander seeds, coconut, shahjeera or caraway seeds, sesame seeds, black pepper, cinnamon, dagad phool - an aromatic lichen and nagkeshar - Cassia buds. The last two spices impart a characteristic aroma to the goda masala. It is sold packaged in some grocery stores. Each family has its own recipe. Try this simple and flavourful recipe.

Ingredients: 
2 cups cluster beans, topped, tailed, deveined and cut into 1 inch pieces
2 potatoes, cubed
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
Salt to taste
1 tsp goda masala
1 tsp sugar
Directions: 
Heat the oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds and allow seeds to splutter.
Add turmeric and chilli powder.
Quickly add the potatoes and beans.
Stir well.
Add salt and a tbsp of water.
Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
Check in between and stir twice.
Add the goda masala and sugar.
Give a final stir. Serve hot with chapatis.
