Hog Millet Pongal
A tasty and healthy breakfast. A Sunday breakfast with little millets
Hog Millet-3/4 cup
Moong Dal (Yellow lentil)- 1/4 cup
Desi Ghee- 2-3 table spoons
Black peppercorns- 1 teaspoon
Jeera (Cumin)- 1/2 table spoon
Green peas- 1/2 cup
Ginger(grated)- 1 teapoon
Salt- to taste
Curry leaves- 4-5 leaves
Turmeric powder- 1/4 teaspoon
Cashew nuts- 1-2 table spoons
Take a frying pan and add 1 table spoon of ghee into it. fry moong dal on a simmer until golden brown. Wash the millet and pour into a cooker container.
Add the moong dal and mix it. Add 3 cups water, turmeric, green chilli, grated ginger , green peas tamarind powder ,salt to taste.
Mix them well and place the container in the cooker and cook the pongal until 3-4 whistles.
In the mean time add 1 table spoon ghee into the frying pan then add jeera, black peppercorns, curry leaves and cashew nuts and fry them.
Remove the container from the cooker and mix the seasoned ingredients. Serve hot with raitha
