Jeera Aloo (potatoes Cooked With Cumin Seeds)

Sometimes the tastiest meals are made of humble recipes. This is an easy combination of cumin seeds and potatoes a classic Sanjeev Kapoor recipe. What I like the most about this recipe is its health aspect. Potatoes do cause discomfort to many tummies and cumin is the next best remedy after carom seeds for a tummy ache.

Potatoes- 5
Cumin seeds- 2 tsp
Roasted cumin powder- 1 tsp
Crushed coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
Amchur powder- a pinch
Salt- to taste
Oil- 2 tbsp
Chili powder- 1 tsp
Coriander leaves- a fistful
Boil the potatoes, peel and cube them.
Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a wok. Add cumin seeds and fry them till they brown. Add the crushed coriander seeds and roasted cumin powder.
Now add the potatoes and toss them. Add salt and chili powder and keep tossing the potatoes throughout.
Cook the potatoes with the spices for 3-4 minutes tossing them in between.
Add amchur powder and keep tossing for 3 minutes more.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.
Prepare roasted cumin powder by roasting the cumin seeds for 2 minutes and powder it using a mortar and pestle. Similarly for the coriander seeds crush them using a mortar and pestle.
