Kerala Style Kadala Curry (kala Chana Curry)

Kerala Style Kadala Curry is very popular and traditional dish of Kerala. It is delicious curry for puttu, appam, and can eat with rice also. If we ask any Malayalees about their favorite breakfast dish, everybody will tell puttu and Kadala Curry. It is a yummy recipe. I am fond of this recipe.

Ingredients: 
Kala chana (black gram cooked)- 2 cups
Ginger -garlic paste- 1 tsp
Onion thinly chopped - 2
Green chilli - 3
Tomato -1
Grated coconut- 3/4th cup
Turmeric powder- 1tsp
Chilli powder - 2 tsp
Curry Leaves- few
Coriander Leaves -few
Coriander powder- 4 tsp
Gram masala powder 2 tsp
Coconut oil- 2 tsp
Salt- to taste
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Dry red chilli- 3
Directions: 
Soak chana over night for 5 to 6 hours. Pressure cook for 20 to 30 minutes until the chana becomes soft and cooked.
Heat 1/2 teaspoon of oil and saute coconut on a medium flame add turmeric powder, coriander and gram masala and stir for 5 minutes until coconut turns to brown color.
Grind it to smooth paste and keep it aside.
Chop onions and tomatoes to small pieces. Keep everything ready.
Heat oil in a pan adds mustard seeds. When mustard seeds splutters add ginger garlic paste, saute till the raw flavor goes.
Add onions, green chilli and saute till onion turns golden brown, add little salt also to speed up the process.
Add tomatoes and stir until it becomes soft. When tomatoes cooked we can add masala powder. Saute for some more time.
Add the cooked Chana and ground paste.
Take a ladle of cooked channa grind to a coarse paste and add it to gravy. Add water and cook for 5 minutes.
Heat 2 tsp of oil. Add mustard, red chilli, curry leaves and add to gravy. Garnish with coriander leaves.
We can eat with Kerala items like puttu, dose, appam and also with rice.
Footnotes: 
We have to soak chana over night other wise it is difficult to cook.
