Meethi Chana Dal (sweet Bengal Gram Dal)

This is a Bengali side dish recipe and is served with hot Maida Luchi or Puris . It is cooked with very few spices and oil and takes just 10 minutes to cook.

Chana dal (Bengal gram lentil) -150 grams
Bay leaves – 2 pieces
Cumin powder – 1 tablespoon
Red chilli powder – 1 tablespoon
Whole red chilli – 2 pieces
Ginger paste – ½ tablespoon
Garam masala – 1 tablespoon
Turmeric powder – 1 tablespoon
Coconut - 1/2 bowl sliced
Telmakana (puffed lotus seed) - 1/2 bowl
Oil - 2 tablespoon
Ghee - 2 tablespoon
Salt - 1 tablespoon
Sugar - 1 tablespoon
Boil the channa dal with sufficient water and keep it aside
Heat oil in a karahi or deep pan and add bay leaves. Then add ginger paste, cumin powder, red chilli powder and sauté for few seconds.
Add coconut, tel makahana (pupped lotus seed) and fry for a minute. Pour the chana dal, add salt, Garam Masala and sugar and cook on low heat for another 2 minutes.
In another pan heat ghee and add whole red chili and temper the Dal . Serve hot with luchi and Puri
