Parippu Thalichathu (kerala Style Tuvar Dal Dried Gravy)

Tuvar dal is high in nutrition and hence suited for people of all ages. Tuvar dal curry is typically served along with rotis or chappathi. Dal dried gravy is another dal recipe which tastes better than traditional dal curry and has a medium- thick consistency

Tuvar dal (Sambar parippu) - 1 cup
Green chillies- 2
Tomato- 1
Ginger- a small piece
Garlic- 3 cloves
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder- 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Dried red chillies- 2
Curry leaves- a bunch
Ghee- 2 tbsp
Water- as needed
Salt- as needed
Cook the dal in a pressure cooker by adding water, salt and turmeric powder for 3-4 whistles
Once cooked, mash the dal and keep it aside
Finely chop the onion, green chillies, ginger, garlic and tomato
Heat ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds into it.
When the mustard seeds splutter, add dried red chillies and curry leaves and fry for few seconds
Then add the chopped ginger, garlic, onion and green chillies into it and sauté until the onion becomes transparent
Next, add the chopped tomato pieces and sauté until the tomato gets cooked well
Add the red chilli powder and coriander powder and fry for one minute in low flame
Now, add the dal, one cup of water and salt into it and cook until the dal gets a medium-thick consistency
Serve hot with roti or white rice
This dish is better when served hot. Once cooled, the dal gets thicker
