Sundakkai Vatha Kulambu (turkey Berry Vathal Kulambu)

Sundakkai Vatha Kulambu is famous dish in Tamil. It is a very tasty dish. This Vatha Kulambu is little bitter, tangy and spicy. A bit of Jaggery makes all taste balanced. Wonder this Vatha Kulambu remains as a favorite dish of many people.
Sundakkai has a lot of health benefits like get rid of worms in tummy for kids. It is also rich in iron.

Ingredients: 
SundakkaiVathal - 1/4 cup
Tamarind-a small lemon sized
Sambhar powder - 21/2 tsp
Jaggery- 1 tsp
Curry leaves- few
Coriander seeds- 1 tsp
Chana dal- (bengal gram lentil)- 1 tsp
Red chilli- 2
Coconut grated-2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Asafoetida- 1/4 tsp
Sesame oil -1 tsp
Directions: 
Roast Chana Dal, red chilli and and coriander seeds in a pan till golden brown.
Ground it to a fine paste by add little water along with coconut.
Soak tamarind in hot water and extract 3 cups of tamarind juice from that.
In a pan add 1 tsp of sesame oil add mustard seeds, curry leaves and Sundakkai Vathal.
Saute till mustard splutters.
Add into the tamarind juice.
Add the turmeric powder, Sambhar powder, and asafoetida, Jaggery and salt. Mix well.
Let this boil for 5-7 minutes.
Add the ground paste and keep the flame low.
Let this boil for 10 more minutes. This will become semi thick gravy.
Put of the flame and add the remaining 1 tsp of sesame oil and curry leaves.
Now delicious Vatha Kulambu is ready to serve.
Footnotes: 
Vatha Kulambu stays good for 2-3 days in room temperature.
