Vitamin C Raita/ Amla Raita (gooseberry Raita)

Amla is a wonderful fruit because it has all the goodness required to maintain good health. It is an excellent source of vitamin C. Here I am sharing a simple side dish recipe wherein I have ground the amla in mixer and added to curd. But do not grind it to a fine paste. It should have a coarse paste like texture. If you want, you can also grate it. It goes well with roti and rice. So try to include it in your diet whenever possible.

Amla Raita
Curd – 1 cup
Amla (Gooseberry) – 4 pieces
Grated coconut – 2 tablespoon
Cumin powder (Roasted jeera) – ½ tablespoon
Green chillies as per taste
Red chilli powder as per taste
Salt to taste
For the seasoning:
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds – ½ tablespoon
A pinch of hing (Asafoetida)
Curry leaves- few
Beat the curd lightly with salt, red chilli powder and cumin powder. Keep aside.
Cut amla into small pieces and discard the seeds.
Grind the amlas, green chillies, grated coconut in a mixer with very less water to a coarse (rough) paste.
Add this mixture to the curd and mix lightly.
For seasoning, heat the oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
When the seeds crackle, add curry leaves, pinch of hing and sauté for 10 minutes.
Add this to curd and mix gently.
Serve chill.
